Software Defined Networking (SDN) for Scientific Networking
SESSION: Software Defined Networking (SDN) for Scientific Networking
EVENT TYPE: Workshops
EVENT TAG(S): Networks
TIME: 8:30AM - 12:00PM
Organizer(s):Nick Buraglio, Dale Carder, Anita Nikolich
ROOM:Hilton Salon D
ABSTRACT:
High-speed networking is a critical component of global scientific collaborations. However, high speed links in and of themselves are not enough to ensure successful scientific discovery. As scientific experiments create more complex workflows over distributed high capacity networks, campuses, labs and supercomputing centers are faced with the challenge of traffic optimization for scientific data. Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a promising solution to this challenge. SDN has gone beyond the experimental phase and into production at many sites. This workshop will explore interesting uses of SDN for network optimization, address security challenges with SDN and discuss emerging SDN architectures such as the Software Defined Exchange.
SDN for Scientific Networking will use reviewed short papers, keynotes speakers, panels to provide a forum for discussing these challenges, including both positions and experiences. All material and discussions will be archived for continued discussion.
